Default Indicator Problem

Attempted to fit replacement rear indicators to my Sv650 sport k8 today. Bought some indicator leads form Hein Gericke which seemed a lot easier then cutting and soldering or crimping. (I no its lazy).

I connected one of the rear indicators to make sure it was working. But when I turned my datatool off I herd a pop and the indicators didnt flash like they do when I turn the alarm off. I turned the ignititon key the lightings came on however nothing came up on the instrument panel and the bike wouldnt start.

It turns out the fuse labelled fuel in fuse box had blown. I replaced the fuse and attached the standard indicator and everything was fine. I then tried again and the same happened.

Anybody know why this happened. The replacement indicators are 21w buld indicator type from J&S.

Thoughts appreciated.

My guess is you've reversed the polarity to the indicator from the bike and when the alarm is trying to flash it it's going straight to earth and popping the fuse.

nope. It won't. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Black + white ground on the bike with Black being live.

With my mini-indys i just connector blocked then with 5a connectors and black insulation tape and hid them as best i could under pillion seat. Not difficult just means if you want to go back to normal you'll have to do the same.

Funny that electrics on a 3.3kv motor are a damn site simpler than on a little motorbike with a 12v supply.

check you've connected it up correctly (silly thing but can be easily done on cables this small and fiddly.)

The indicator leads and the indicators are connected with the black + white wire connecting the black + white wire of the bike and the black wire for the leads and indicators connecting to the black wire of the bike. Not sure what other way of connecting them. I could do it the other way round on purpose but thought it was pretty unlikely that the wiring in the new indicators was back to front.

Really confused here. Have now gone through 5 10amp fuses. Help.

No this is the thing. All im doing is simply unplugging the standard indicator lead which connects into the bikes main wiring system beneath the seat (the little grey connector beneath the pillion seat). Then connecting the new indicator leads which connect into the exisitng connector one end and the bullet type connectors the opposite end for the new indicator.

The datatool resets itself so in order to test the indicator i turned the alarm off but it goes pop. Even before i turn the ignition on. The thing is if i put the standard ones back on the indicators work fine however the bike wont start coz of the fuse for the fuel system being blown. If any fuse would be blown i thought it would be the one for the indicators. Am i just being thick.
