Default Mal Plates

Can they be used on the road?

Went out to the food van to notice that my bikes number plate has gone walkabouts, only thing I can think is it has come off on the way in...So gonna have to go home and stick the not so legal one on, as in, the Hovis size one for his old SV.

Can someone refresh my memory what the legal dimensions are please...And if malplates can be used on the road?

you can use a show plate on the road, but you may be stopped and fined, same as exhaust / visor etc

DVLA regs are here:

9x7" is the legal requirement and you must porduce your Logbook to obtain one.

A show plate however, is exaclty that. it can be any size and can not be used on the road. However, i have had a 5x7 on my bike for 8 years now, apart form the time i had a 4x3!! and not had any issues with da law!

No idea what a Mal plate is.

My plate isnt erm very big and I have had no problems.

I even had a police pan euro follow me through long eaton, all the way to the honda garage and he didnt say a thing other than nice bike lol

The lettering is boardering on being legal, buts its all on one line which apparently is naughty, but I have since heard this is ok if you have less digits.

Halfords sticky pads have held it on at over 16.0 leptons just fine

Police are getting much pickier about number plates for the APNR and speed cameras. Depends on which force sees you, and if anyone has lent on them to enforce it more vigorously. Its now (REMOVED) a fine I think if you are caught. ( Reasoning seems to be you have hard to read plate so you can speed though auto cameras without being identified).

It's a rectification notice.

I know, I had one recently.

No points.

Rectification notice means you get a ticket. You have to have that ticket signed by an authorised MOT station to state you have rectified the issue on the ticket so that it now conforms with standards. Send that ticket in the post to the address indicated within 7 days and you'll hear nothing more.

Don't do it and they will hunt you down and kill you.

The last bit is not true.

up to a 1000 fine (just looked). They can issue a rectification notice, they don't have to.
