Default Weird Problem, Electrical

Went to work on my bike yeaterday, came home, took the wheels off to have my new tyres fitted & put the bike into the shed after giving it a wash.
had a call off a mate tonight asking if i wanted to buy some heated grips cheap. They are brand new, bought from the bike show. His missus has bought him some OE Triumph ones for his Street Triple for Christmas, so they were surplus to requirements.
Anyway, took the old grips off, struggled like mad to get the new ones on (they were really tight), wired them directly to the battery, then tried to start the bike &........ nothing.
All of the lights & horn work, tried all of the fuses, disconnected the heated grips, shorted the clutch switch out, tried the sidestand switch & still nowt.
I press the starter button & absolutely nothing happens, I've tried the kill switch in both positions & still nothing.
I cant understand why, as it was perfect yesterday. I will have to get a multimeter & check the wiring, but can anybody else think of anything I could be missing?

bypass the clutch switch, its possable that the grips are thicker than the old ones and the switch does not operate on the clutch

OK, short the starter relay out and see if it fires. (with ignition on)

+1, seen this a couple of times before, sometimes just down to wear of the switch, but if no relevant 'leccy bits have been fiddled with then it's what I'd check first.

Mine does it sometimes when the grips twist round to a 'fatter' part. But then my switch is bypassed now.

Many thanks once again to the Org, it was the clutch switch not engaging properly, so I've bypassed it & all is well......Once again, many thanks
