Default Throttle/Kill Switch Casing

Dear Org, Please help a monkey out...

After fitting my heated grips (thanks to Ralph for the instructions, saved me a shed load of time) the throttle casing/kill switch bit now twists around when I twist the throttle.

I can see two little screws underneath which I'm guessing are how to nip it back up again - is this right? They're a proper pig to get to, is there a trick or nack to this?

Cheers
JM

JM

On the upper casing there's a wee locator pin that fits in a wee hole in the bar, at least on a curvy S there is. If you can rotate the switchgear it's probably broken off, it's only plastic.

There is a hole in the clip on that a pin moulded into the kill switch housing locates into to stop it spinning round. Hopefully you can move the housing until it lines up then just nip the 2 screws tight. If you're unlucky then you've crushed the pin and may have to open up the housing to try and straighten it.

Yeah, that is correct. If you have a stubby phillips screwdriver use that, if not how about a screwdriver bit on a ratchet? If neither of these two then remove the side fairing for easier access.

Lissa - you're dead right, I've destroyed the plastic pin, it's totally broken off!

I've asked in the Wanted section for a replacement, but does anyone have any Bodge-Master tricks for fixing this one in the meantime?

I thought about screwing a wee self-tapper into the plastics then chopping off the screw head so it fits into the bar. Good/bad idea?

Wrap insulation tape around the bar, by screwing the two halves back together they fit tighter and will not turn with the throttle. Be careful not to have the tape on the bar where the throttle tube will rest, this will restrict its movement which will be dangerous if it cannot return freely. My beasty has been like this for 6 years with no problems.

I have LSL bars fitted, they don't come with a locating hole drilled into the bar.
