Hi guys,
Just wondering, what if I get pulled up by the police with my bike restricted to 33bhp and I dont have any documents to prove that it is? All I would have is my word against theirs. Im also worried that the bike I am looking at has a performance exhust fitted it could be a full syste, but I am still to check. How likely is it that such a modification could put me over the 33 BHP limit? Cos if I dyno it and find that its actually producing say 35 or 36 id be in trouble if the insurers or the police wanted to test it... Thanks (sorry if this has been repeated somewhere but Ive been reading around and havent been able to find any clear answers to these questions) |

Don't worry too much, as long as you have the kit in I wouldn't be too worried.
Exhaust, no gain. |

thanks for the quick reply
you reckon I should get a dyno run done on it though? Any ideas whether the insurance would be valid if the dyno printout said a value higher than 33...? Sorry Im only trying to be safe. |

Dyno can be done for your piece of mind, it is only once company that produces the certificates, think it is FI International, they will likely charge you for these... But like I say don't bother. Dyno, may well be a get out of jail card if a copper wants to ask for certificates, you show them that your bike has been dynoed <33bhp. I have been stopped before but had certificates on me. I guess if the dyno printed out over 33bhp then the insurance would make a payout to say a third party but would then chase you for the money as you are invalidating your insurance, insurance are always trying to find ways out and make more money. Have you declared you have a restriction kit fitted to the bike? I've always wondered myself if you got stopped and they wanted Dyno proof, would you have to cover the cost or them? I'm guessing it would be the rider who would be clobbered... Last edited by plowsie; 17-08-09 at 03:05 PM. |

I havent yet purchased the bike, im just looking in to in thoroughly before I do. I wasnt planning on declaring the restrictors to them as they up the premium by another £150 if I do, dont ask why. Im just worried that if I get a bike and restrict it that at the end of the day its still putting out more than I am allowed on my licence.... only by a few BHP mind... but surely the police and insurers would realise that it is actually restricted seeing as its a 70HP bike standard haha

plenty of threads regarding this subject on here, the majority state you do not need a certificate and only a small handful of insurers ask for a copy.

Who cares if a dyno says 34bhp, dynojet dynos are calibrated by what yamaha said an original Vmax was supposed to be putting out at the crank.

off all the time i was stopped no-one asked for my restriction certificate and i never carried it with me. If i was ever asked i would state i was on a restricted licence and would produce if needed along iwth relevant doc to police station of my choice in 7 days. Eventhe insurance company didn't want it. My probs now is being stopped and asking about the bike as the licence shows i'm still restricted but i ain't- just refused to pay to have it removed
