I need to replace the timber on the frame, and possibly fit a new door - theres nothing wrong with the current one really, its just looking a little old, so its really just the frame. Maybe I'll paint it. Anyway:
Its big (about garage door size) and pretty heavy. Once its off, its rather important to get it back on before the sun goes down and the naughties come out...... Reckon its doable as a one man job, or do I need professional hands? Whats a sensible price for this kind of thing, all in? Anyone done this before? Ta |

My garage door (original) was done by a local firm and they cut a hole in the wall, fitted the door and were gone in a morning.
After it was kicked in by chavs, replacement door was done by insurance contractors who removed the original door and fitted a replacement and were almost done within an hour! Assuming you can replace the bits you need to quickly, it should really just be a matter of holding it back to the existing holes to screw it back into place I guess. |

Replaced the wooden frame and door on my old garage a fdew years ago. Easy enough for a DIYer to do, but much easier with two of you when fitting the door.

Agree, most of it can be done 1 man, I replaced the frame some years ago on mine. but man handling the door is best done 2 man. I did it on my jacks and it was awkward. mine was a 7'6 by 7' steel door and I scrapped a bit of the paint off the bottom dragging it about.

Is it hinged or sprung? When I has an extension put on two years ago the builder would not do the new garage door as it required special tools for the up and over spring. Cantilever springs are easy to do yourself but the ones that are above the door are apparently a lot more difficult as they need to be tensioned.
