Looking for an electric impact driver for home spannering, nothing particularly fancy but something that'll do the job right
Can you get a decent one for £100 or so or do I need to be looking at spending more? Any brands to look at or avoid? Anything I need to know but probably haven't thought of?

about £30 from argos, for changing wheels, 12v, does the job.

You can get a Dewalt set for just over a tonne if you look in the right places. We used to basically give them at my last place.
Even the Dewalt ones broke a lot tho so dun buy cheap if you wanna use it a lot. Oh yeah and remember impact drivers and impact wrenches are different things. Last edited by Thingus; 20-09-09 at 04:12 PM. |

Stay away from DeWalt, unless you wanna pay over the top for something, just because it has a "Brand Name". Stick to names like, Bosch, Mac, Teng, Makita, Halfords Pro, Britool and Draper Expert. These all do good value stuff that isn't likely to fall apart it your hands!

My first Makita one has finally died after 10 years
![]() I swear by Makita for all my tooling, pay the extra and get something that will last. |

That suprises me. I've been using Makita for about 15 years and never had a bad bit of kit from them. They do a cheaper range that you can buy from B&Q etc but I have always gone for the pro stuff as my kit gets used on a daily basis. |

Why electric?
I reckon for around a ton you could get a reasonable compressor and an air impact gun. Then you have the versatility of the compressor and associated goodies? |

I would be working in a residential garage with neighbours in a very quiet area, so don't really want to be running the compressor while working on the bike, I know the electric ones are noisy but they won't be running all the time like a compressor shirley?
Secondly I didn't think you would get compressors than cheap tbh, any examples of good options and why I should choose air over electric
