Hi all, well as a little project for over the winter Iv'e obtained a CBR 600.
As the tile says I am going to be streetfightering the little beauty. However having never even owned a bike without clipons I'm a little stumped as to where I need to start. Is it as simple as just finding some risers and and a renthal bar off a doner bike (monster/bandit/hornet etc), lining it all up and drilling it into the original top yoke? Obviously i'll need longer cables/hoses etc but I'll get onto that later. Cheers guys. |

Err..No, the normal top yoke won't be strong enough, if you turn it over you'll see it's quite thin and has ribs across it, so it'll need supporting, this can be done a number of ways, I've machined alu to fit the spaces and bonded them in place and I've seen them resin filled as well; also a plate made to go underneath being another solution, these being where the risers are bolted through, or finding a suitable "naked" top yoke to replace the current one.
HTH Cheers Mark.

dont change the yoke,
dont put renthals on it. the whole point in a streetfighter was faired bikes, that where crashed and the plastics where too expensive to replace. so the sport stance stays the fairing goes etc |

You've got it in one. Its too expensive to replace the road plastics.
However its a 2000 (FY) CBR so its not going to be competetive to race in the 600 class so as a back up for next year if the RRV450 challenge doesnt go I am prepping a streetfighter racer. Check out the strretfighter regs... http://www.thundersportgb.com/index....=905&Itemid=99 Wonder if anyone makes a specific yoke for it? LSL maybe? |

i would imagine, another yoke from the honda range will fit...as it does for suzuki's/yams etc....ask on an honda forum and im sure u will get an answer, maybe a naked hornet 900 top yoke might?....as for cables u might get away with rerouting them, as i have...and 5000 miles in is running A1

Re-routing the cables is what most people do. Which class are you entering? I assume A? Last edited by plowsie; 24-09-09 at 10:46 AM. |

Yeah cables arent a problem. Even If I do need new ones i'll just make them for the cost of very little and I've got a few assorted braided hoses lying about.
Well Honda said that the day it left the factory it had 110bhp..... yeah right! Take off a minumum of 10% and you are down to 99 and presuming that the usual ravages of time have been at work id guess id be down at about a true rear wheel figure of about 90bhp by now. But i'll be getting it on the dyno to confirm but I should be safe for streetfighter B. ![]() |
