Exclamation Importance of Eyesight Tests

If anyone has any slight concerns over their eyesight then I can`t stress enough the importance of having an eye test.

For the last few months I`ve been thinking that my eyesight wasn`t as good as it used to be and I do seem to have some trouble driving at night. It wasn`t a major concern and I could`ve quite happily left it but I thought I`d best go and get them checked.

What a shock!!! Within the first 2 mins of the test the optician told me that I shouldn`t really still be driving Apparantly my vision is so poor that I`d fail an eye examination on the driving test. It appears that one eye has been getting me by with my driving and even that eye doesn`t have fantastic vision.

It`s a horrible feeling to think that I could have been involved or more importantly caused an accident due to the fact that I was ignoring some nagging concerns over my eye sight. That horrible feeling will hopefully help me to get used to the fact that I will now have to wear specs when driving/riding but I think it`s going to be really hard to accept that I have to wear them for reading and close up work too.

So in future if you see me riding with my specs just ignore me cos I`m gonna feel embarrassed however all I can say to anyone who has any minor concerns is GO GET THEM TESTED!

Been meaning to get round to it for 30 years, even my company has been bugging me and given a free test voucher and will pay glasses.
Will get round to it sometime

Don't be

As a fellow goggles wearer I'll say anyone taking the **** for someone making themselves a safer rider is gonna get a kick in the nads

Pop into your local Tesco Extra... the big ones with the opticians. They often offer free eye-tests. I had one last summer, opened my wallet to pay, "No need, it's free."

I had to get mine done for my DAS, i couldnt read a license plate perfectly at the 20m, albiet done it at my cbt a month earlier.
My eyesight is fine apart from very fine detail like number plates, i hate wearing my glasses but they do make a difference at night, not so much glare.

My wife works in opthamology (spelling?) and she said the amount of old people that drive to their appointments to see her and they have serious eye problems is scary.
So when you say to the next old duffer you blind t**t, the probably really are not far off.

Its also an MOT for your eyballs which can also point towards other medical conditions you may habe that have gone un-noticed.

Nothing wrong with wearing specs (other than that i would kill to be able to wear contacts!!) at all.

Very true, its amazing how many problems can be diagnosed through your eyes.

Definately I went for a routine check up a few years ago. I hadnt noticed any problems. I just needed a new pair of glasses as I had knackered the lenses in mine.

I'm sat their reading the eye chart with my left eye, yep pretty much as I expected. Read the eye chart with my right, yep pretty much as I expected.

Optician does the business with the shiney light in my right eye and pulls a weird face and says somethings not right and refers me to my GP. I get refered again the local hospital. Then again to the eye specialist in Bournemouth.

Turns out I've got macular degeneration that if it was serious enough would lead me to go blind in my right eye. Lots of repeat visits, eye drops, but its not got any worse and I've been signed off.

If I hadnt gone for that eye test, it might have gone un noticed, it might have got worse, and I might have gone blind in my right eye... was a bit shocked at the time, but I am glad I went...

Dont put it off...

I was exactly the same and went just before crimbo for a check up. I'm now wearing glasses, after a couple of days I got used to them, and now it's like I've worn them for years.

Don't worry about 'em.
