Default Outlook 2010

One for you IT support bods out there.

I connect to OWA/OMA via Outlook using https. In Outlook 2007 it prompted me for authentication every time. I got Office 2010 and great (!) it has a remember password tick box, so I used it and for the last month Outlook has connected from home over my internet connection no bother.

Last night my password expired, changed it and now I cannot get outlook to connect over https, unless I tick the "always prompt for password" box in the account settings, so I'm back to having to enter it EVERY time, with no remeber password tick box, whether I connect via https, over VPN or in the office. If I untick the "always prompt for password" box, it doesn't prompt me and fails to connect over https, I assume because it is failing authentication, by still trying to use the saved password from last month.

How do I clear this cached password from Outlook 2010, so it asks me for a new one and gives me the option to remember it for another month?

Ok, the most likely way would be to run Outlook once as administrator, login with your creds then close down the application. Next time in it should be fine.

The other option is to use a facility called Windows Credentials Manager although I cant remember if that was present in Vista. Creds Manager allows you to preload credentials for this sort of thing.

If you don't have too much data / don't use cached exchange you could delete the outlook profile and set it up again.

that wont make any difference, the issue is related to way that Outlook (and other apps) is partially restricted by the User Account Control security facility in Vista.

Cheers Flymo, unfortunately I can't do it, I have admin rights, but I don't get given the password for the local administrator account. I'll google for the Windows Credential Manager

Found it, thanks guys, I went into Control Panel, User Accounts, manage your network passwords, and deleted the ones for outlook.

Unticked "always prompt for password" in my mail account settings, restarted Outlook, and now it has prompted me for the password and given me the remember your password tick box.

Guess I'll have to do that in User Accounts every month if I want to use the remember password feature.
