Default Outlook Help

There is loads of IT types on here, so someone must know the answer.

I have Outlook 2002 SP03 has my email client and have set it to use Word (also 2002 SP03) as the editor. When writing emails in HTML format, the spell checker ALWAYS uses the US English dictionary, not the UK one as specified in Word and Outlook. Editing plain text emails with word uses the correct dictionary and Word docs use the correct dictionary.

how do I get HTML emails to use the UK dictionary, as it is starting to really wind me up!!!

Stop sending HTML emails

Thats a HORRIBLE hack invented by Microsoft.

Plain text only please.

Oh and while on the subject, Email (SMTP - Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is for sending messages.

FTP - File Transfer Protocol is for sending large files

HTML email should be banned. Full stop.

In the wrong hands (and occasionally the right) its like writing a business letter with crayons and rubber stamps.

If you want something to be pink and bold and italic, fine, but put it on a webpage where I can choose to look at it or search for it, rather than have it thrust upon me like some kind of niche textual pornography.

My mail server knows I prefer receiving plain text. We have a good relationship like that.

Hmm my web browser must be broken as it appears the above actually says "discuss the merits of using HTML in email"

As to the question at hand I think you have to change the registry value. Not much help, but better than the previous responses....

Personally I use Thunderbird (from the nice people who bring us Firefox) and that spellchecks everything in UK English, regardless of whether its plain text or html.

Hope that helps some.

As others have said HTML is wrong. How the heck am I supposed to read it on an ANSI terminal. If you must have a formatted document, attach it to the mail. 90% of the time, I simply use the linux mail command to read my mailbox do I hate encoded documents as well

Multipart messages - one part in plain text and one in HTML. The main problem that I have with HTML email on an ansi terminal is that pine can display the HTML part instead of the plain text.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work and I see no reason why HTML (an internet standard, after all) shouldn't be used for email.
