ipod touch 4th gen thingy

I dont do social stuff. I dont watch movies or listen to music on hand held thingies. I dont play games. I already have a phone and despite only costing £15 its brilliant.
What I would like to do though, is have something that I can connect to my wifi at home and my wifi at work, where I can check my mail, surf the net a bit. Easily and quick, no faff.
Also I'd like to be able to carry maps around with me and see where I am with GPS. I can do this with my netbook, it has offlined all the google maps and can overlay my position using a bluetooth gps.
I've also heard of apps - do they work on ipod touches?
I like to be organised, make notes, lists, audio notes, collect random info. Is that the kinda thing that apps do?
Do they turn on instantly, or boot up like a PC?

You can do everything on the Ipod touch that you can do on the Iphone, including all the apps, except make calls / texts.
Im sure there are apps for the organised among us! I have a voice recorder on mine already.

Pass on the bluetooth gps but yes it will connect to wifi when you are in the area for it.

They turn on straight away when you touch the button on the front / at the top.

Thanks. I just picked one up on the way howe from work. Not impressed I have to install itunes onto a pc just to make the thing work for the first time, but I'll play with it see what I think. Hopefully I can junk all the social carp like facetime and games centre etc, free it up a bit. Much small than I thought it would be !

God almighty, I have to set up a tedious account and give them a credit card just to get a free app! This is going in the sock drawer at this rate

I have had an ipod for years so did that a long time ago.

It is ridiculous though

I'm a massive apple fan and I think all apple iDevices are fantastic, once you have re-worked your lifestyle around THEM! Pain in the backside to begin with but once you're up and running i don't think you'll regret it

And just incase you haven't already sussed it, the ipod touch doesn't have built in GPS, and also without a sim card for mobile Internet you're not able to download google map data ''on the go''.

There's a free gps app called Navfree. Looks good but I haven't used it in the car yet

But the ipod touch doesn't have a GPS receiver?

just got my daughter one of the new ipod touches dunno what gen just the new one with the camera ? ? ?
i aint a big fan of itunes altho i do have to use it with my iphone, can i plug her ipod touch into my lappy which is configured for my phone?
