How normal is it for the SV to stink of fuel after a ride?

I get a whiff of it when I take the cover off, but its not that strong and I'm not too concerned.

But just now, pulled up, bike off, big whiff of it. Enough to make me think "phwoar"

If it's a leak it cant be major as I would have noticed fuel going missing, I'll give her a check over tomorrow to make sure its not something obvious, but apart from that?

Or am I being a worry freak.

Probably a good idea to get the tank off and check for cracked/perished hoses and check for any leaks from the carbs.

dont ride the bike until you have this sorted!? Petrol vs hot exhaust = whoumph!

I just had this problem. when I lifted the tank to service the airfilter a vent hose came off and I didn't notice. There are two towards the rear of the tank on the brake pedal side. I reattached the hose and problem fixed.

Hmm, I did have the tank off a while ago.

Petrol + heat soak of hot engine. It will smell slightly.

However it can point to problems with drain from fuel filler.

My drain pipe has come unstuck and i get the stink of fuel its a major job aswell which is why im putting it off check just inside your filler cap and see if the pipe is loose if it is thats where your stench of fuel is comeing from and its not a simple fix but its a simple problem to locate

Didn't get a chance today, hopefully will tomorrow.

Do remember noticing a little bit of rust round the actual rim where the fuel goes in, only looked like surface rust though. Don't know if that is indicative of anything.

I don't recall any pipe inside the filler cap though - what exactly am I looking for?

I'll take the tank up and check everything is on tight, and do a visual inspection.

On left hand side of filler spout bit under the cap there is a hole, this leads down a pipe inside and out of a spigot on the lower rear of tank just in front of the hinge.

Yep seen that pipe before.

Just need to make sure it's on ok right?
