Default Moving to the Isle of Man

I'm starting a new job on the Isle of Man in July which is obviously an amazing opportunity for some great riding. Question is, what to do with the bike. I'll initially need my car over there straight away and will have to pay the extortionate ferry fee. If I want to bring the bike at the same time I'll need to fit a tow bar and buy a trailer (budget several hundred pound which is an awful lot of money to me right now).

The bike is a '99 naked that cost me £1600 3 years ago and has since been maintained by me but hasn't been ridden since September and will therefore need plenty of work doing after the winter plus a new chain.

So, it's looking like it'll be quite an effort to get the bike over cheaply and may not be worth it. Instead, should I sell (probably for less than £1K) and buy another on the island? What is the size of the used bike market on the island? I'll most likely be after another SV or possibly a Ducati Monster, budget being a couple hundred more than I sell the SV for.

Also, I've never been to the IOM. Has anyone lived there or visited extensively that can tell me what life is like there. I'm really excited about it, I'm an outdoorsy, traditional pub and pint of ale sort of person and that's pretty much how I see IOM life being.

Thanks in anticipation.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but ManxMatt seems to put a lot of effort into NOT being on the IoM

Hehe

PM him for info.

The obvious answer is to get someone else to either drive your car or the bike over for you.

Yup, I imagine riding the same loop over and over will get boring after a week.

Still a beautiful place, I'm trying to get one of my projects based out of there but theres not a port big enough

SK was being serious. ManxMatt really does live on the IoM, and he really does try anything to get off there!
