Default bike keeps cutting out on me

need intelligence, ive entered dealer mode and no codes have come up (C00) and i think, for some reason, it could be the TPS and it needs adjusting. now, am i right in this train of thought or could this just be a voyage to the world of dead SV's?

Can you give us a desciption of how and when it happens?
What it sounds like?
Is there anything youve done to the bike recently?
Make a mental note of the things the bike does or the things you do before it 'goes' just in case it might be linked to the problem.

Was just going to say that.

If its when you start, ever thought the idle ain't high enough? Could be as simple as the throttle bodies need a balance.
I have an issue with my VRaptor at the mo, get it upto temp at 30 degrees, you should be able to turn off 'choke' (yes I know its not a choke) and away you go, but I have to go off down the road blipping the throttle for it to catch on properly. Pretty certain its throttle balance time, as the idle is fine. Once its got over itself its fine!

How long have you had the bike?
What age is it?
When was it last serviced?

Id consider lifting the fuel tank and giving it a clean & lube around the throttle springs/rods before considering going down the balancing road.
could be something as simple as gunked throttle bodies.

I can't emphasise how dirty the sv's throttle bodies get. A yearly service may do the trick but you have to weigh up wether your mileage / riding conditions / how you store the bike, warrant it being checked once a year.

its 5 years old, it was serviced last in november, the throttle springs do look very gunked up.

it happens intermittently and usually about 5 miles from home when engine is very warm and im doing about 50/60, it splutters very badly and if i want it to keep running i just pin the throttle and it just keeps it alive.....just, but it will inevitably die, spark plugs are fine also.

i use it everyday and its about a 120mile weekly commute. are the throttle bodies easy to balance at home or is it a mr suzuki jobby??

thanks guys

Check the idle setting for a start, if you peer into the throttle bodies from the clutch side of the bike with the engine off (use a torch to see better) and twist the throttle you should see the key areas when the bodies move. You see a rail with the front & rear pivots moving either end. It's these pivots that are spring loaded that control the smoothness of the throttle / speed of return to low revs.
People on here have had the same issues along the same lines especially the cold/warm bike solving it, then it comes back if its cold/warm again. Could be sticky throttle bodies (gunky-warm engine 'melts' the problem away, back to cold, gunk solidifies-back to square one) This could be the wrong type of lube used on them at the service or it's just got dirty.

Or at the extreme, the bodies need balanced.

Theres plenty of info in the official sv manuals on how to raise the tank and remove the air filter to get to the throttle bodies and at least give them a careful clean. It's not difficult at all. I placed rags under the bodies pivots to catch the wd40 i used to clean them out of gunk & i used a sparing amount of 3 in 1 silicone lube to get them back to normal again.

Considering what you use the bike for it's worth learning how to do this, i'd be suprised if a service once a year kept this at bay (and considering the experience of how some garages operate i'd be suprised if they took their time in this area!)

idle should be ~1300rpm (tis in the haynes book)

on mine it was ~900 and i was getting the cutting out syndrome like yourself.

then adjust the TPS; it should be ~1450rpm but its prolly much higher.

both of these will make the bike so much better to ride.
