Default Broken down

So i broke down this morning the RAC came out.

The bike seemed to die electrically RAC man charged the battery and jump started the bike and did some tests. He says the alternator/magneto isn't charging because he was getting readings of between 11.98v and 12.12 volts going in and coming out of the reg/rec.

He says the reg/rec may also be a problem.

Does this sound right to those who are more up with vehicle electrics than me?
If not what else can i check??

Also which part would need replacing, the rotor or the brushes?

Thanks guys

Whats the CBR upgrade I have been reading about?

What should the reading on a multimeter be, I got the impression the RAC man was more suited to cars.

Also what is the likelyhood of a alternator going on a 99 curvy with only 24,000 miles on it. Seem unlikely to me.

Dont know if you have looked through this fault finder guide or not but it quite good. also have a look through my battery thread incase there is any pointers that may help.

Just been reading your thread, one thing i did notice the RAC man didn't change the setting from AC - DC when he was measuring either side of the reg/rec so he got roughly the same readings either side. From reading you thread i think getting 12v from the alternator is pretty unlikely it'd be 70v-ish or none. all readings were around 12v which i think suggests the r/r.

Any thought and ideas welcome.

My curvy R/R died at 24000miles so it wouldnt assume it too young to croak.
The CBR r/r change is just as simple as fitting a new SV R/R (provided you can solder).
