So i have just had my MOT on the K3 and i got an advisory on the front right disc being ever so slightly warped. Fair enough gives me an excuse to buy a whole new set of wavey discs, but where is the best place to get them?

Wavy expensive = Galfer, Wavy mid-range = Armstrong, Wavy bottom end = Blackshadow

Why wavey discs? if your going to improve your discs and buy some aftermarket ones why go and buy some of the poorer ones(yes they are better then oem, but thats not the point of the question)? Weight vice they are good, but braking they are inferior to full discs, braking works on the pressure pushing the pad against the disc, and the less areal the pads have the press against the less braking power you have...There are even articles in proper bike mags that confirm this....
But if you say bling/style that's fair enough, I guess, it's your bike by all means ![]() |

hhhmmm so what your saying is that solid discs are better than drilled/wavy.
errrrmmmm no. properly designed discs should dissipate heat quickly but still have enough material to aid friction. if you don't dissipate the heat then you get brake fade which is why almost every single motorcycle sold today has drilled discs. a badly designed drilled disc will be worse than a well designed wavy. another reason is to wipe the pads so they don't get glazed. you can have very little material on a disc as long as its been designed properly with the right material for the application. blackshadow discs may be cheep but they are well made and do the job just nicely 10,000+ miles and mine look like new. i will say one thing and that's if you do a lot of riding in the rain the don't use HH pads on the blackshadow discs as they don't match well, all other times and they perform flawlessly with HH. |

But what I was trying to say, and I'm sure most people understood what I was saying, is that good designed full drilled discs is better then the best wavey discs there is. And if you think different your welcome to think that, I can't force you to be right, well maybe at gun point? Anyone in here that can borrow me a gun? Relax, it's only beer talk, I don't even kill spiders if I can help it. Ask yourself, why isn't any of the superbike teams using wavey discs? You think the reasons is because they are silly people that doesn't know what they are doing? Or could it be that drilled discs are better then wavey discs.... But you're funny, I like you... Sh|t it takes forever to go through my spelling when under the influence of alchol... Good night.. |
