Default Cutting out on idle

Hi folks just looking for some info. Had the bike running around 40 mins in the garage when it cut out. Re-started the bike and ran another 10 mins before cut out again???
The bike is ok for oil and petrol.
Is there a temperature cut off fitted as standard to the 2000 650 model?
Any info would be appreciated.

Sorry, but why on earth would you have the bike running for 40 minutes in the garage?

well good question. Someone was looking to buy it so kept it running.
Is there a temp cut off?

I would ask the same question. Not really a good idea all round.

Presumably the fan was cutting in/out during this time? Did the red overheat light come on?

It could be a simple as the carbs getting too hot causing fuel vapourisation/boiling, this can cause all sorts of mixture issues, even causing the floats to sink and flooding the carbs in an extreme situation.

"Doctor, it hurts when I do this".
"Well don't do it then".

wouldn't worry about it. you had it running for 40 minutes. if you want to idle for longer just increase the revs that will stop it cutting out. mine cuts out if it dipps to low on the revs but I generally use it when the bike is on so the throttle is always in use.

There should be a fan on your bike, and if there isnt one it will overheat if left running while stationary. That is probably what happened.

As standard there is - are you sure it's not there, or is it just not working? To be entirely clear the fan is on the back of the radiator.

Is yours a race/track bike? If yes, and no fan is fitted, don't have the motor running for longer than is necessary at a standstill.
