Default Things to do/ check on a bike that's been in storage?

Hello ! I'm new to the sv650.org and new to biking!
I just bought a 2005 sv650s with 15k miles on it. It had been sitting in storage for probably over a year and a half/2 years. Before I can ride it I have to fit myself a 33bhp restrictor on it and while it's parked up and tank propped up etc are there any things in particular I should look out for/ service? Oil change maybe? If so what type/ make of oil or other parts should I buy? Any low cost mods I can add to improve the looks?

Thanks alot,

Pat

Drain old fuel and fill with fresh. Do full service so you 'reset' the service clock as it were. So oil + filter, air filter clean or replace etc. Types of oil are fully covered in 'what oil to use' sticky.
Low cost mods, hmmm, I would put the money into servicing first, ride for a bit and then think about tarting up. But front fenda extenda if not already done is valuable.

Just about due its first valve clearance check at that mileage.Probably worth doing that while you do the other stuff for peace of mind rather than it actually needing adjustment.Oil and check the chain/sprockets.If its the original chain it may need replacing if it wasnt looked after.Brake pads.

If there's not much fuel in it there's no need to drain, just top it up.

Cool, it said in the service book that it had its 15k service at like 13.5k so valve checks etc. so I should be alright for that thankfully. For oil filters I found ones that are genuine suzuki parts or is like a K&N oil filter better? Thanks : )

Ps anyone have any experience of putting a throttle stop on as I am STUCK

Genuine would be what I would get as the price difference isn't a lot.

I personally would have got an ECU restrictor as they are simply plug and play.

If its been sitting:
Fresh Fuel
Strip and rebuild of the brakes as they will be hopeless
Service of the engine (oil and filters)
Check tyres aren't egg shaped
desieze chain
New battery if its sat off optimate

When I wanted a ecu restrictor there were none around, so i bought this washer/throttle stop.. the same day one came up on ebay! Typical. One finished on ebay tomorrow I might buy that and try to re sell my set.. I have a question though, The guy says it comes from a 2007 sv650 but fits on his 2006.. Mine is a 2005 and he assures me it will fit on mine. But I have read that 2007 onwards is different plug than 2003-2006? Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Thanks, Pat
