Default 'Jacking up' a Pointy?

Guys,

Does anyone have a jacked up pointy SV? For me the back feels and looks low, not just mine all SV's.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of jacking up my bike? will it put a strain on any other parts??

I had my old bandit jacked up and it made turn in a little sharper.

What is it exactly that you're referring to? Raising the rear suspension, or lifting the tail section of the bike like a silly 'streetfighter'?

Not street fighter. Lifting the suspension.

You can test it easily enough, to an extent. Just lower the front by raising the forks in the triple clamps by whatever amount you think you want to jack up the rear, then go ride it. My guess is, you won't like it much.

There is a bit of a different thing going on with that though, they do like a bit more length in the shock, +10 at the shock is ideal.

Personally I don't like lifting links, the pointy linkage progression isn't ideal anyway and doesn't need any help.

I put 45mm dog bones on mine. I'm happy with it, drops into corners abit quicker and now see speed wobble on bumpy roads at 100+ (on a track ) but its no biggie

I agree, the Penske shock I added is about 15mm longer than stock, which was a bit much, made it feel twitchy to me. I raised the front end on the forks so the top of the fork caps are flush with the top triple clamp- much better.
I just thought it would be an easy way to get an idea of the feel he'll end up with, without committing to any expense or labor.

That's right about where I found was spot on with the curvy but it's a different animal, I ended up with about 355mm from 337mm stock, however with inch shorter GSXR forks... not sure where this twitchy feel you get is coming from. Maybe cartridge forks handle it better... or tyre choice... anyway.

To digress, best thing with changing shock isn't the resulting rake, it's to get the rear end working right w.r.t the anti squat ratio. To get it to a nicely neutral feeling the curvy needs about +15mm and the pointy about +10mm at the shock.

You're right, it would give him part of the resulting feeling... but not the best/important part, if you know what I mean!
