Haha. Well a member of the org learned this week not to ride along the road just after the tractor carrying pig poo has been along spilling muck. I grew up on a pig farm and know how hard it is to get rid of the smell so rode on the wrong side of the very quiet country lane to avoid it. Not so my companion who now has a bike that smells like a sow's backside

You think that's bad. I was once in a group galloping horses across a fallow field on a sewerage farm, a perfect surface to gallop on. I was at the head of the group when I saw a pipe coming up that was discharging a liquid on to the field. I saw the wet part of the field and veered off to avoid it but several riders at the rear galloped through it. Human sewage slurry on the bellies of three horses and the riders had to ride 3 miles back to the stables and were made to clean the horses. To say the smell was ripe is understating the facts.

Love the final line of that story:
The male motorcyclist, in his 30s, had to be hosed down by firefighters. Reminds me of the time many years ago, when I was out for a ride with a mate on our 250 2-strokes. I had just bought a new set of leathers at great expense and made sure I only used them in the dry so they didn’t get dirty. He was in front of me and came round a corner at speed to be confronted by wall-to-wall cows. He managed to screech to a stop before hitting any, and I pulled up behind him, but the cows were still terrified. And what do frightened cows do? All over the road? Eventually the farmer rounded them up and got them across the road into the other field. It was at this point that my friend, frustrated at being held up, decided to dump the clutch to speed off. But instead of a wheelie to express his displeasure at the farmer, as he had intended, his back wheel spun in the substantial quantity of cow waste left on the road. Spraying said cow waste all over my gleaming bike, my brand-new leathers, and even into my helmet. In that moment, I felt he had invented an incredibly effective means of riot control. As a means of subduing an unruly crowd, I have to say that a spinning wheel in cow waste has few equals. (The bike had to be hosed down several times, the leathers had to be binned, but I kept the helmet to lend to others – they never asked to borrow one again.) |
