Help! Has anybody got an idea how to raise the front forks to change the springs and oil on a K3 SV. Im at a loss the only way I can see is car jack the front up with some wood to cushion the engine but im not sure wether this is safe or no

It's safe enough, but you'd do well to use some rope to make sure it can't fall very easily.

is the engine strong enough to take the strain.

Yeah, I think the engine can cope.
Just watch where you put the jack, the exhaust collector can get in the way if you're not careful. |

On the naked bikes (never been close to a faired model, so don't know) there's a 10mm hole from side to side behind the oil filter. I jack mine up using a bottle jack under the engine and then slip a long rod through (an rear old engine mounting bolt) and support that on axle stands.

I did this when i serviced my forks (using a hydraulic trolley jack rather than a car jack) and it was fine. As carsick said, be carefull not to foul the exhaust collector.
It left it jacked up for about two and a half weeks with out the forks in and it didnt budge an inch, checked it every other day or so. |

Yep. Having been to the Dr Rictus & Dr Squid spring chaning session....
You need a rear paddock sttand (or NWS /Abba stand) and possibly some wood. Put the bike on the stand, and prop the wood under the engine block. (You could use a jack, but whatever you have). You want to do this just enough to take the pressure off the front. You can then remove the front wheel and drop the forks through the tree. Make sure you remeber to do your travel calcs/spacers etc as well. I seem to recall having to do something before taking the forks off! Dan |

the exhaust pipe is also supposed to be able to take the weight of the bike, if you can rig something up to clamp to this. Not entirely sure i'd want to try this personally tho
