Default Temporary insurance

I want to get insurance to ride Joe's TL for this bank holiday weekend. Does anyone know of good insurers that do this sort of thing?

Also, because it's not currently taxed, I need to somehow get the insurance certificate TODAY so I can go buy a tax disc for it. Does anyone know how I can do that? I am going to be in central London all day. Joe said something about going to underwriter's but I not sure what he means by that. Help!

I would walk into a brokers* (even the AA, or anyone with a Norwich Union sign etc...or you could find an online frim whos office is local enough for you to pick up the note) just insure it as normal get cover note, ride off. Then you can cancel within 14 days or something.

Its a plan...there may be flaws. One will be that you arnt the owener of the bike, which I think you need to be. So the above is probably fraud, maybe dont do what I just said

*so one of the high street insurance places you see a bit less of these days cos of online stuff.

you'll have a problem insuring it your self as (i assume) you don't own the vehicle, joe might be able to add you as a named rider if his policy allows for additional riders. i had the same problem on a mate's bike.

not that i am suggesting you would do this - don;t be tempted to say it is yours purely to get the cover as you won't be covered in the event of a claim, or being given a tug by the police.

How about if I 'sell' the bike to you on a temporary basis

The legal owner should be able to add a named rider either temporarily or permanently to their existing policy. If there is a change in premium they will have to let the owner know how mch at the time of enquiry.

I have been added temporarily in the past when car owners have gone on holiday and wanted me to drive their car.

If you do bin it Iwould say that you would have to buy it off joe anyway so.... If you declared it as yours it may just be that you haven't sent the V5 off yet.....

Err, yeah! That would work?

Hmm, how am I going to call all these insurers without raising suspicion of my boss?

Joe, I take it you're not currently insured on it.

Yes, you can do this, for 30 days or so, there are various policy's that most insurers offer.

I'm not sure you'd be able to sort out all the paper work to do this today Worth looking into though.

I wanted to insure my bike for a short time. The only option I found was to take out an annual policy, then cancel it a month later and claim a refund - but the refund isn't often a lot. Again, worth looking into as a possibilty.
