Painting rear hugger

Renewing my chain and sprockets next month and doing fork springs etc. While I got the wheels off I want to rub down and repaint the rear hugger - in the metallic black. What's the best way to go about it and where do I get the paint n stuff? Thanks guys.

Does nobody know how to paint plastic?

Preparation.

More preparation.

When you think it's ready, prepare it some more.

Then it's easy. Plastic primer, rub down, with 800 grit, plastic primer, rub down with 1200 grit, plastic primer, flat with 1600 then 2400 grit, topcoat, flat with 2400, topcoat, flat with 2400, topcoat, flat with 2400 or finer if you can easily get it, then lacquer, lacquer, lacquer.

Pros would probably argue that this is all wrong, but it's been working for me for years.

Job done.

When I were a lad (and it were all fields round here) I decided to respray my RG250 black (coz it would look c00l). No preparation, no airbrush, just a couple of coats of Halfords finest straight out of the can.

It looked like a turd.

63 is right - do it proper

EDIT: Oh, and do it outside or in a very well ventilated area, and wear a breathing mask. Skimp on that and your lungs will look like those of an eighty year old forty a day smoker.

EDIT 2: Just remembered, I did my RG250 outside, caught many many flys within the paint Perhaps a shed, with windows open might be a better bet.
