Default Electrics on curvey 650 carbs - what do they do?

On my 99 650 carbs there's a couple of electrical connections.

I Have managed to break one of these off (it has a spring on it which goes down a small tube to a metal plate in the carb).

I've googled and looked in the service manual, but can't seem to find any suggestion of what they do. (Might just be me being blind, though).

What do these do?
Does it matter that it has broken off? If so, is there any specific way I should try and reattach?

The carb heater or the TPS?
The carb heaters are connected to the bowls and the TPS is mounted on the rear carb.

Sounds like you've snapped the top off a carb heater. How would I know this is what you are describing??

You can either ignore it and tape up the wire, fit a new heater (a little pricey but not the end of th eworld from what I recall), or do what I did (I mean would do if I were clumsy enough to break one ) which is to refit the heater coil into the hole, and carefully araldite the top back on.

The heaters are supposed to reduce the tendency for carb icing in cold weather, but they are marginal at best so you won't be missing much if one isn't connected to be honest.

Cool, cheers.

It is the carb heater then.
Should have mentioned it's not the TPS; which is listed in various places, so I identified it.

Think I'll leave it for the mo; it's on a race bike so won't be getting /too/ much winter use.

I wouldn't worry then. Most non-uk Svs didn't have the carb heaters. Plenty of those carbs knocking about on ebay.

The carb heater is about £13. I broke mine off too.

If you're not bothering to replace it, just remove the tab off the other one, or you'll have some problems starting the bike on two cylinders.
