Default Curvy rear brake caliper (working) 99 model

Hi, I have problems with my rear caliper and its seized right up. The garage says it isn't worth the amount of time it'll take to free it and it would be cheaper to get a new one . . .

Easier for them but not cheaper for you.

The rear caliper is so simple that an experienced mechanic would have it re-built in less than 2 hours. That's how long it takes me. I've had some really nasty ones and yet to see one that was completely beyond repair.

Not necessarily bad advice. A new one doesn't necessarily mean brand new .

Those calipers are designed as disposables I think . I've got two spare ones I'm working on at the moment.

Cheers
Ben

Edit: You posted as I was typing. Two hours plus seals and pins. It would work out cheaper to get another working caliper if you can find one.

The rear calipers from many other Suzuki models fit. GSXR, BAndit, TLS, TLR etc.

My rear caliper seized when my dealer priced up the cost of rebuilding my caliper against a new one. It was cheaper to rebuild it. Even though they had to leave it in bucket of releasing agent or something like that overnight as it was seized rock solid.

Suzuki want stupid money for new rear calipers.

I would wager your caliper is seized so badly your mechanic can't be bothered sorting it out.

Default caliper

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I've arranged to buy one from Iansv.

Your advise is as ever, much appreciated.
