i know this has been cover before, but i cant find it & it was only breifly discused IIRC
whats wrong with using clean old engine oil in the scottoiler? as its ok in the loobman? im not bothered about braking the oiler but somthing to do with the consisity of the oil & somthing to do with holding water? ![]() ![]() |

Lots of org members have said they use old engine oil quite happily, but in my experience, on pushbikes I must add, engine oil turns into opaque yellow gunge which rusts underneath, because engine oil contains emulsifiers, added to encourage water to mix in with the oil rather than form droplets, whereas scottoil will act like dewatering oil and displace water from the chain surfaces.
I stand to be corrected, I have never tried engine oil in my scottoiler. |

14,000 miles of use with used engine oil (I have about 35L of the stuff and am always keen to find a use for it) I've not found that it forms a white emulsified layer on the chain, could be that I run the scottoiler at a higher level and the old stuff flings off, could be magic.
Either way no problems so far. ![]()
