bar ends

hi

im looking to replace my bar ends as they look crap....

do they offer a usefull purpose weightwise or is it just for the looks..

ive seen these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d..._promot_widget

it says they will fit but can someone confirm as they are coming from states ...i dont want any issues....i want some in chrome or anadised silver or blue....are there any better ones about..for a tenner

they do serve a purpose, they are a finely tuned mass, and their purpose is to reduce vibrations transferred to the handle bars, if your replacing them with aftermarket ones, ideally, they should be the same weight as standard ones

Like Adam said they're soul purpose is to reduce the vibrations through the bars. Aftermarket are usually nowhere near the same weight so not as effective at vibe reduction but to be honest I had some cheapy carbon fibre ones in once (I was given them when I lost an OEM bar end ) and the difference wasn't that great.

As far as fit goes you need to be aware that the ones you are on about are for standard handle bars like you find on the naked SV, the SVS having clip-ons is a different attachment and these ones won't fit.

I've got stainless steel ones from Busters. About a tenner. Polish up nicely and don't fade or scratch like anodised ones. Very heavy and I don't suffer from vibes.

mighnt even make some...got some stainless bar and a lathe and polishing gear at work......fancy some of them highly polished pointy ones

We bought a low mileage yellow one but as the blue ones are FASTEST and we had seat, wheels and other bits to match we swapped bodywork.

As for tolerance from my other half, check out the grainy video. She's worse than I am.

I've had heavy bar ends, light bar ends, bar end mirrors, no bar ends, different bars even... None of those ever made the slightest difference to vibrations for me. If you have a vibey bike, they could make a difference but if you keep everything in good order, carbs balanced, engine running sweet, wheels round then there shouldn't be much need for an elastoplast fix like weights.

ive seen the sort of calculations they use to calculate the dimensions and weights of the end weights lol its a bit sad really, and considering neither you or i can feel the difference, it does seem pointless, but the theory is correct, its just tweaking and optimising
