when i had my old bike the clutch went when i was quite some distance away from my house and i had no way of getting it home, so i dropped it in at a garage i herd good things about, got bike back, bought sv, sold other bike.
so about 2 weeks ago i get a phone call from the person i sold my old bike to saying that the clutch is gone, "WHAT! that was a brand new clutch when i sold it to you" i said, "yes i thought thats what you said" she replied. I told her that i hadn't got the invoice anymore, so i said take it back to the garage and im sure they will recall the invoice. anyway today i get another call saying that she took the bike back and the mechanic had a look at it and he said there was nothing wrong with the clutch (as i thought) BUT! she said he found some metal fillings in the oil filter. right.... with a long pause as i was baffled, the mechanic said i would need to strip the engine down and theres no point as it was cost more than the bikes worth as they charge 43 quid an hour. he advised them to get is MOT'ed and taxed and then sell it, she said i don't want to do this as i don't want to leave some other poor bugger with the problem. now im starting to think this place is pulling a fast one because when i had the bike there where no knocks or bangs coming from the engine, i gave it a full service, plus when she 1st phoned me she said her neighbor knew stuff about bikes ETC and said the clutch was gone and when she explained to me what was happening i also said yes it sounds like the clutch and how does metal filings in the oil filter prevent the clutch from working, something in the gearbox perhaps? he also advised her to get a second hand engine i am tempted to phone her back and tell her to get a second opinion Last edited by Wideboy; 27-09-07 at 05:33 PM. |

Tell her you are very sorry but the bike was sold as seen and no warranty was given. It may sound harsh but she could have had the bike checked out properly before she got it and the bill for repairs is now her resposibility..
Or offer to find somewhere else who could do it cheaper? |

If it was serviced before the indicator light came on the last time, it may be that your 8.5K has brought the car to a QG1 2 year interval, and is now genuinely thinking it needs a variable service. Incidentally, if more than a litre of oil is added to the engine which is non longlife, the service interval code in the ECU will revert to QG0, as it will if the service light is reset from the trip meter button. |

If you do reset the light you'll limit yourself to fixed intervals of 10K or 1 year - but you could have the car serviced in another 6K by VW (or Audi/Skoda/Seat, any will do it) and they can put it back onto QG1 variable if it's possible - depends on the engine code. Service light reset procedure is as follows: Button A = Button on the right of the centre display on the console Button B = Button on the left of the centre display on the console ------ Passat from 2001 onwards: Ignition off. Press and hold down button "A" Ignition on. The word "SERVICE" will appear in the trip computer display Turn button "B" to the right to reset the display Turn Ignition off. Passat year 2000: Press and hold button "A" Ignition On The word "SERVICE" will appear Release button "A" Turn button "B" to right until display is cleared Passat from 1996-1999: Oil Service Reset: Press and hold button "A" Ignition On Release Button "A" Letters "OIL" or "OEL" will display Models with digital clock : turn button "B" to right until "---" is displayed Models with analogue clock : pull out button "B" until "---" is displyed INSP service Reset: Press and Hold Button "A" Ignition ON Release Button "A" Press and release button "A" INSP should be displayed Models with digital clock : turn button "B" to right until "---" is displayed Models with analogue clock : pull out button "B" until "---" is displayed |
