Default DIY Surgery

I was stupid enough today to accidentally ram a half inch long splinter right down the side of my fingernail. After turning the air blue for a few minutes I toddled off to get the pair of tweezers from the First Aid kit........and there they were, gone!

I then spent a fruitless 10 minutes trying to drag the splinter out with a needle, but it had gone in so far that I couldn't withdraw it.

By this time I was really fed up, and my finger was throbbing like a good 'un, so I resorted to desperate measures. I took a clean stanley knife blade and sliced through my skin to a little below the top of the splinter. Then, by pulling the skin away I could just get hold of the top of the splinter with the corner edge of a bulldog clip I found in the office. Quick tug, and out the splinter came, along with a fair bit of blood

Bit barbaric, maybe, but it did the job. For some reason, though, Pete went all wobbly when he heard what I'd done.

All well and good, but make sure you keep it clean to avoid infection and that it heals up properly.

No worries, already used anti-septic on it. This one is minor anyway compared to the time I stuck the end of my finger in the circular saw

The bullet doesn't bother me. It's the shrapnel from the shells those damned Russkies bombarded us with in the Crimea that really aches.

Believe me, the kitchen is a far more dangerous place. Not only can you cut yourself, there's burns, scalds, smacking your head on a cupboard door you forgot was open...............saw, drills, routers and rivet guns are FAR safer

Oooh crap, my kitchen has cupboard doors, boiling water AND saws, drills, routers and rivet guns....

Anyway, congrats on your surgery; just promise that if you get a spot of arrhythmia you don't try DIY heart surgery...
