Default New SV owner needs paddock stand

Hi all,

My first post here. Just passed my test yesterday and went out and bought a W reg SV650S with 5100 miles on the clock. Looks in great nick, can't wait to pick it up tomorrow.

My previous little 125 had a centre stand so I never needed a paddock stand to oil the chain etc. Now I need one. Been looking on the bay but not sure which one to get, can anyone recommend one to me please.

Would also be interested in any other tips etc owning an SV.
Cheers

Lee

Welcome to the org Lee. Where ya from?

I have an Oxford rear paddock stand that does the job for me I would recommend that you use the hooks & bobbins with it though as the plastic pads that support the swingarm aren't ideal and the bike can slide down them (which may or may not cause scratching to the swing arm).

If you look about (use the search) on the forum you will no doubt find some useful threads on the subject of paddock stands, and many many many MANY other useful tips no matter what SV (or bike for that matter) you own

Oh and many congrats on passing ya test Now the REAL learning begins

definitely spend some money on one and get an oxford with the bobbins & hooks. I have a cheapie front one from a show and theyre pretty poor. The Oxford ones are much better

OR if you are looking for good long term investment get a NWS or ABBA stand. Yes they are ?100, but they are miles better than a paddock stand.

As for paddock stands I've got the motrax paddock stand with bobbins & hooks, it's not bad but I do get the feeling it could have been made better.

Definitely, if you can afford it. They fit at the swing-arm pivot rather than the wheel end of the arm. ABBA

When I first got the SV, I got a cheap tat Bike-it one which served me very well, till it eventually fell to pieces. Now I have an Abba, and a Harris rear stand which is better made than the bike but that first one would be fine for most people I think, if it's for cleaning and occasional servicing. Mine saw constant use for about 2 years before it got too bendy.

Mine`s a cheapo one as well.Paid about £25 for it complete with hooks which you normally have to pay extra for.I made spacers for the hooks to keep them in the correct position as they tend to slide in and out abit when locating on the bobbins. It makes it a bit easier to use .Anyway,I`ve used it alot and I`m quite happy with it.

Cheers
