Default Wiring phone extension - HEEEEELP

I'm confused to say the least!!! Had a phone extension upstairs for ages but the wire got chopped off from the plug.....no problem I thought I'll just rewire it

NOW - the only thing I get on the handset is echoing - no dial tone no nothing. I am connecting the blue wire to number 2 and the white/blue to number 5 which after going through number of sites appears to be the correct way.

Setup is as follows;

Master Socket -> Extension cable that comes upstairs -> On this cable goes the microfilter -> on the microfilter goes internet, sky tv line & phone line.

Any ideas??? HEEEEEEEEEELPPPPPP

I don't know if this will help but it worked for me some time ago when I put an extension in the daughters bedroom.
Disconnect everything and start re connecting eveything working from the furthest point.

Try the blue and blue/white the other way around, and I think you'll need an orange going to '3' for the ringer to work.

I tried to wire the extension straight to the face plate of the master socket so had to chop off the end of it

unlucky but not enough cable to put the faceplate back on!

So I have admitted defeat! Fax machine is being move to the living room where the master socket is!

Hate the houses in this country! 1 master socket in the whole house and then you have to mess about with flimsy extensions!!!
