Default Setting up scart leads - TV/Sky/DVD

I'm trying to set up my tv equipment scart leads but can't get it working properly.

Basically what I want is to get the sound from my tv and my sky to come out the dvd players surround speakers.
If I put the dvd player to the "TV" function it will play the sound from terrestrial tv. But if I turn on the sky box, the tv flicks over to AV2 (sky) but the dvd player keeps playing the sound from terrestrial tv

I got one of those 3 into 1 scart connectors but that hasn't solved it. I can't work out what I need to do to get it working. Can anyone help?

Ok im assuming you have 2 scart leads on the back of your tv, 1 has the dvd player in and 2 has the sky box. If you look at the back of your dvd player you should have 2 scarts sockets, 1 is the output which goes to the tv and the other is an input for something like a freeview box/vhs player/xbox etc. Try connecting you sky box into this socket and see if that works.

If you dvd player doesnt have this/it doesnt work see if your sky box has a scart input on the back of it (no idea ive never used a sky box). If it does put the dvd player into this and then try it. Hopefully that will work.

If that still doesnt work does the sky box have a red and white phono out put (the same connectors that you get on an aux connection on a stereo, you use them to connect cd players). If it does then you will need an "rca phono interconnect", any electronics shop will see them, just ask for an interconnect with a red and white plug on it for my stereo and they will know what you mean. Try plugging from the output on the sky box into the input on the dvd player (assuming your dvd player has one) and it should work. You may have to fiddle around with the audio source settings but with the manual to hand this should be pretty easy.

If this still doesnt work what make and model is the dvd player and the tv and which sky box is it, the basic one, Sky+ or any of the other ones they make and we will see if we can help.

The dvd player only has one scart socket for some reason. The sky has a tv output and a video output. But if I put the dvd player into the video socket on the sky box, it means I can't watch dvd's on the tv.
Now that you mention about the audio leads, the dvd player has an audio input so I could put the sky into that, then I'd just need to change the dvd player to the "Video" mode.

are you sure that the sky box has 2 scart outputs? that seems pretty redundant, why do you need it to be able to run 2 tvs? I would have thought that the one labled video would be for you to conect your video recorder to. If you plug the dvd player into that video slot on the sky box i think it should all work. The tv will need to be set to AV so that the sky box is working, then the sky box will need to be set to AV so that the dvd player works. I would have thought that the sky box would have auto scart switching meaning that when you turn the dvd player on it automatically switches to displaying whats coming from that. This is exactly what my freeview box does. Give it a try and report back if you can get the dvd player to show a movie on the tv.

Yeh I tried that but the dvd signal doesn't get through the sky box to the TV. It all seems to be working now with the audio leads from the sky box to the dvd input. Cheers for the help

If you set it up that way you might have to turn the sky box off, to let the DVD signal get through.

I think you may need a seperate set of phono leads, if the dvd player has a setting for aux audio input, as said above.
