Default common sense from a dealer!

A bit off common sense ffom a dealer happened today. Phoned up George whites in Swindon to ook my bike in for its 4000/6month sservice. Now its only done 2100 miles so far so GW said dont bother untill its done the miles. I asked about the fact that the book says 4000 or 6 months affectin the warranty, to which i was told they have never had a problem with a warranty claim if the bike was serviced on the millage instead of the every 6 months. A bit of good news i though that will save me a few quid next month. I will probably need to get it done in July nyway after the AR and NW3.5 plus a few other rides in the sun.

I know, but compared to some SS600 owners that is well over two years worth.

You could service it yourself and save even more money.

As 4K service is probably only dropping the oil and changing the filter, I think you should do this.

Oil degrades over time as well as use, so bear that in mind.

You can do it, then still get the dealer stamp for the 4k service in a few months time.

If your that worried about them wriggling out of a warranty claim, then I'd make sure the service was done and the book stamped. IF they wanted to wriggle out of a claim, all they would have to say is you didn't get the bike serviced as per the service manual. I don't think a statement from you saying the dealer said it would be OK would make them change their mind.

When I had my Zx6 I phoned Kawasaki Uk and asked them if there was an issue with meservicing the bike myself. They said as long as the items that are marked with a 'K' in the service manual are carried out by a qualified Kawasaki dealer then there won't be an issue. From memory very few items in the service booklet are marked with that 'K' (valves etc). You can do almost all the servcing yourself, at least then you'll know it was done right.

Yeah i see your point, but it would be serviced as per the schedual on miles covered. And GW said they have never had a problem with Kwak and doing any warranty work if t hade been done on milage rather than time.
