How bad is it ?

What I did was take my carbs off, the cut a big slot in the head of the screw with a haxsaw and then used a dirty big flat blade screwdriver to get the screw out.

It was a complete b*stard to get them out and I very nearly destroyed one of the screw heads doing so.

Mine were terrible I never thought I'd get them out, but I kept spraying penetrating oil at the threads and then eventually with some banging and cursing I did get them undo. You might also find a sharp tap or shock to the screw head might help break the corrosion which is holding them in to.

Remember carbs are delicate don't go walloping the cr*p out of it with a big hammer

Give them plenty of penetrating oil like fizwheel says. If your going to do this at the weekend, give tham a spray ASAP to give the spray as much time as possible to penetrate any crud or corrossion.

P.S. WD40 doesn't count as penetrating oil

See the figure 8 shaped plate holding the choke plunger in? Tap that sideways with a punch, don't go using a lumphammer and a 2 foot run-up at it, but this often breaks the corrosion.
