Is there such a thing.....?
Was thinking about getting a supermoto for hooning around our fair capital and cant really stretch to a LC4/ Husky as it would be a second bike. Presumably our continental cousins arent spending their Euros on spangly KTMs all the time and there must be a cheaper alternative? Are there any 400/450 crossers or similar I could put sticky rubber on? Comfort not an issue, purely for irresponsible short distance scratching. ![]() |

Sometimes the odd converted crosser pops up on eBay. Might be worth a look...

MZ Bagheera/Mastiff? These are pretty cool IMO, I think they have the Yamaha 660 motor in. Old KTM Duke 1? I'd look for a converted mentalist dirtbike personally, not that I don't like road-biased supermotos but they're a compromise, I had a very brief go on a race supermoto a while back and there's no comparison really.

Save a few extra pennies and buy something decent, eg an LC4 based one or the Honda XR650. Anything else will just cost you more in the long run, or even in a very short run come to think of it!

depends what you want it for really, you don't get mental performance without sacrificing in terms of maintenance and reliability.
i have two supermotos, a DR-Z400 and a KTM 560SMR, one has a recommended oil change interval of 4000 miles, the other 300 miles, but when it comes to performance there's no comparison: the 625SMC in the middle belongs to a friend, and it's a good compromise of performance and service intervals, you can pick up a decent 04 model for about £3k: ![]()
