Unhappy new owner lights question

Hi!

I just bought a 2002 SV650S. Can someone please tell me if i switch on my headlights should both headlights come on, because at the moment i only get the little side light and one headlight. When i switch on my main beam only one of the headlights and the small sidelight works. I have checked the bulbs and they are fine but on the right hand bulb holder there is a red wire that looks like it has been cut, but i can't see where it was connected to? Can someone help as i dont want to look stupid when i call the shop!

Many thanks.

they should both come on, somebody posted a while back that they prefered the look of some of the newer bikes where only one side comes on, maybe this has been done to yours?

They should both come on, unless its an import in which case only one will.

See here for more info the important headlight setup

I thought the curvys had just one light, or is that just when the sidelights are on?

When a Curvy's lights are on both main headlights light up along with the sidelight, if it doesn't you have one of two things either an Import headlight unit or a knackered bulb.

Import Headlight has a projector beam on the left light, its distinguished by a clear circle on the lens...

Apparently mines an import... I get just the left light on on dip, and just the right one on, on main.

You wont necessarily have a projecter bulb if both lights don't light up. Mine did this and it was a German import, which did exactly as you said. By chance, do the bulbs have different sized spades?
A few minutes with a new H4 plug and mine was sorted.
