Currently having a problem with my 2000 plate curvy the problem occurred a couple of week’s back after the bike was sitting for 5 weeks.
The initial problem was the bike would cut out when at idle , this happened more so when the bike was warmed up this then lead to an intermitted problem the symptom being the bike had no power the revs would rise but the bike would have no power, when the carbs warmed up this problem would clear. I have tried changing the idle speed adjust but it is seized solid so the bike currently idles at around 1000-1100 the bike used to run fine at this level. I have tried freeing the screw by lifting up the airbox but its jammed solid The bike runs fine at speed sounds fine and pulls fine but when you pull in the clutch and the revs start to drop and it stalls. Another thing is when you hold the throttle to a steady 1500rpm the engine hunts and if you drop it any more it stalls. Can anyone advise what my problem might be I have spent many hours reading past problems on this forum and I am struggling to come up with much. Thanks |

Ok, sounds like the problems I was having last winter - am I right in thinking you have engine idling problems then when you start the bike and the first 10-15 mins of running? Have you tried using a higher-octane fuel, like V-power? I found this helped alot. Also, try using some carb-cleaner, your carbs might be blocked. Put in about 100 ml of somehting like Silkolene PRO FST with your next tankfull of petrol, might help.
Someone will be along in a minute to offer an actual remedy... |

The last 2 tanks have been Vpower but this has not made a difference.
The problem even occurred after the 100 mile journey I made today. |

Hmm...try using a carb cleaner; you might have some gunk in the carb's from the standing fuel, although I dont think petrol would settle that quick?
First things first though - get that engine idle cable off and free'd up. |

carbs could need balancing, and a good clean out

Does it smell rich? Could be choke plungers.

wouldn't faff with the idle til you've cleaned stuff up, +1 YC, another thing to do first

It doesnt smell rich but i will check the choke plunger to be sure.
What elements of the carbs should i be cleaning up and how big a job is it? |

It's a pain in the rse of a job. But it doesn't sound to me like they need fully clearing yet.
Take carbs off, get choke plungers out and check they're moving freely, grease everything. It's such a common fault it's worth eliminating it from the start.

Try pulling the plugs out to see if one or both are running rich.If so it will probably be the chokes,or it could be a clogged up air filter. Also check the breather pipes that go from crankcases to airbox. These can come adrift and cause rough running.
