OK.
so the lounge is fresh decorated. New floor, new laminate, new skirting, new wall paper etc. I now need to hang the new radiator. Simple position centrally on wall fit valves, drop pipe from valves and drill holes where pipe touches floor. But sods law applies. My luck and sods law dictates there will be a floor joist at that exact position. So after the event and all the floor was up and I had the opportunity to measure/mark the joist position. How the hell do I detect the positions without going under the floor with a tape measure and a paper&pencil?. Don't tell me there is a standard spacing. This house was built by a guy called jack in the 50s who did not own a spirit level

Will they work at that depth?
22mm floor then 3mm foam and 8mm laminate. I would have thought the flooring itself would have bounced back so much that the underlying joist would be lost.

Get a long piece of wood and draw a on the floor using a permanent marker.
Drill a hole, aprox every 1cm along the line to the depth of 1inch. Get a pencil and poke it through each hole, if it goes straight through the laminate and floor board there isn't a joyce there. If it doesn't go through, there is. |

So glad I checked before fitting
Placed centrally in the bay, both pipes would have collided with the joists. so I have to place 2" off centre. I just know some criticising clown will say that it not centred

hit the floor with a hammer. listen to the sound and you'll work out where the joists are.
