Default 6th Gear sluggish

Hi, been away for a while and not on the bike. Please note the below is on private roads.

Used the bike three times over the past two months with it gernerally just sat there.

Last week I was taking it from 85mph in 5th to 90mph in 6th when it would not accerlerate anymore. It felt as if I was riding into a head wind. The gear also jumped back to 5th.

Same happened today, the bike was happy at first but then I slowed to say 70mph and changed to 5th and then went back up to 6th for around 94mph and the bike slowed to around 90mph and would not go anymore. Again it felt like I was being dragged back and then jumped to 5th gear.

Clutch/something dirty from being sat around in the cold?

Thanks

Check that the foam on the underside of the tank hasn't come adrift, it then falls onto the air intake and blocks it. This had me going for ages. The wind under the front of the tank is enough to pick up aloose front edge of the foam and push it down onto the airbox. Best just to scrape it all off.

Has it been like this all the time?
Does the bike accelorate as fast as usual? If not it could be your clutch slipping other than that loss of power at 90 odd mph I'd suspect a restrictor?

Someone with more knowledge will be along soon :P

Theres all sorts that can cause lack of power but changing gear by itself is something that should be checked out asap. Are you sure it is downshifting without you touching the gear lever?

No restrictor unless someone put one on during the night.

Shifting to 5th only is odd but the bike does accelerate fine until it has this wobbler. Which has only happened a couple of times.

Could be fuel starvation. Mine jumps from 6th to 5th once in a blue moon, the gearbox is nowhere near as good as i am used to on other Suzukis.

Hmmm, happened again last night. No odd gear changing just the lack of power and it sort of felt like it may want to jump gear.

Bad excuss but have no time to look at anything until three weeks away but should not need to ride it until then.

Do I just need to have alook at the air filter and take tank off?

Seat off (curvy anyway, dunno about pointy or which version you have), remove 2 Allen bolts at front of tank, lift up and prop up (prop is under the seat, or improvise). The air filter comes out with 4x crosshead screws, the foam is a thin panel stuck to the underside of the tank over the intake to deaden the noise. Onlt takes a few minutes and two Allen keys, plus a screwdriver for the filter. Sounds like the filter is okay as it sometimes goes as fast as it should.
