Default occasional backfire / popping - advice

Notice today that i had an occasional popping / backfire when coming of the revs, sounds like a small backfire / misfire if there is such a thing... is it just burning off the excess fuel or do i need carbs balancing etc.... its had new plugs, oil filter and is running fine otherwise.... tends to be when shifting down gears and off the throttle..

Check for leaks in the exhaust, on the overrun it can suck in air into the exhaust, the air heats up and expands rapidly, hence the popping.

Sounds normal to me - my SV1000 always did it when rolling off the throttle, usually between 4k down to 3k revs - sounded awesome, and apparantly the flames out the can looked pretty cool too

If it runs ok on a steady throttle, and when accelerating I would not worry about it.

running great did 200 miles today...and yes its only on low revs less than 3K hard to discribe as its not coming through the exhaust....just sounds like a slight misfire...

no really worried as it only happened 2 times that i noticed.... guess i'll just see if it develops any worse......

guess i could check the plugs and plug gaps etc... MOT next month so i might get the carbs balanced at the same time if the problem continues....

yeah mine does it constantly. Snap the throttle shut and you've got an instant dog repeller.

Mine used to do that, my other halfs does it on the over run all the time. As long as its the occasional pop its nothing to worry about.

srx600 - think you misunder stood me.. i wasn't ignoring your advice, i was trying to say that the popping doesn't sound like its coming through the exhaust... i've checked the exhaust and its all a snug and tight fit...

any help / advice is always appreciated...

mine does that a very little but pretty sure becuse with the streight throu exuast on it was rejetted before i got it then stuck the original back on gotta rejet to that now, oh and if the air box isnt on tight mine poped alot you have to take the air filter out and manualy pull the rubber bits around the cap otherwise it dosnt go on properly.
