Default backfiring Question

starting the bike this morning never used any choke, turned over a couple of times with no joy so thought id better use a bit of choke,
it sarted first turn with a very loud backfire through the carb,it has done this a couple of times recently after the same kind of start up routine
is this a case of the carbs need balancing and if so is it a job that a not a machanical person like me can cope with,
have done things like plugs filters and oil change, plus straight forward brake caliper probs before now.
any help would be gratefully recieved

when were the carbs last balanced? has it got fresh fuel in it? last time the plugs were changed?

Sometimes if I use kill of switch and some fuel gets through and try start it it unleashes a big backfire, otherwise fine though as dont use kill off regularly!

I wouldn't worry about it just a bit of excess fuel getting to the exhaust. If it's only on startup it really shouldn't make any odds. If it does it all the time it could be your fuelling or a leak

only had the bike around 10 months although at that point it was a one owner with full service history (99 curvey with around 24k on the clock)
done a mini service about a month ago plugs filters oil, ride the bike most days when weather is fine so fuel is never that old bike is garaged and yes as a new rider it is possible that from time time when i pull up i'm a bit quick to put the stand down resulting in stalling it
could that be the cause? as i said it as only happened a couple of times but want to be on top if it needs sorting
(dont want to lose out on days riding it minght be winter tomorrow)

Could be I suppose, I'm not massively mechanically useful but if you imagine the engine is turning over and chucking out fuel to be ignited and then when you stall or hit the killswitch it'll chuck out some that won't get sparked, then next time its started it goes pop. Although would have thought it would evaporate

Could be anyway. Mine flames at the exhaust on start up apparently

And this is different from turning it off by the key?
