took my bike for a decent run today.
after around 20 miles the FI light came on, the display showed FI and the temp readout flashed between temp and FI. the bike continued to run fine. i stopped and had a look round - couldnt see anything obvious - stared up again and the light had dissapeared. after a couple of miles it all came again. i have a full titanium exhast system on and no O2 sensor. could this be the reason why? |

youve got to put the fuel injection system in dealer mode so the fault code shows then work from there. Have a look in the technical stuff for an explanation of how to do it then let us know what it is.

when it happens do i have to leave the bike running then do it, or turn the bike off, put it in dealer mode then turn it back on? cheers just an update - just took the bike out on one of my usual runs - about 12 miles each way (non stop) and no problems. |

I had a similar problem with my 650sks6. Would ride for ages then suddely FI light stop turn off restart no light until then next time. If the problem goes away ie its intermittent, when u turn off the ignition the fault code is wiped so no knowing what it is until the next time. I rigged up the dealer mode connection so that it was accessible under the riders seat but rode around without it connected. Then when it happened again I put it in dealer mode without switchin the engine off (its normally accessed under the passenger seat and u need the ignition key however with the riders seat u only need the tools - dont know if its the same on 1000) and bingo up came the code. Still took ages to suss out the problem though.

the code was C28 which is a problem with the secondary throttle valve actuator. Well as per the manual I checked the signal to it was arrriving ok and its resistance was ok but as it was an intermittent fault I didnt find anything wrong. I did separate and reconnect all the connectors in case there was a dodgy connection but in the end I reckon it was down to the adjustment of the secondary throttle valve position sensor. It wasnt quite set correctly from new so could never give the full output signal when fully open. It was fine at partial loads but when I gave it some sustained welly (I realised the FI light did seem to come on after full throttle) the system said the actuator signal is 100% open but the feedback isnt so theres a problem with the actuator. Theres a different code for the position sensor but of course it was working ok just not giving a high enough output on full open so I adjusted it to give the correct values and Ive never had a problem since.

Not had the problem since but i did go into dealer mode the other day and noticed the code c00 but with the minus sign at the top. This indicates the TPS is not correctly set. I adjusted the throttle possition sensor yesterday and will see what happens. I cant really believe this is the problem, but who knows? I have rigged up the dealer mode switch so i can activate it if it happens again to see what the code is. The computer does apparently remember the code - so it should be a TPS problem. I will keep you informed. |

Dont worry about the minus sign, thats related to the TPS the bike wont FI because of it unless its shot.
If the bike does not show up FI when you turn it on then the dealer mode wont show anything i think. Take your spare key with you, when the FI does show up, park bike up leaving it running and pull rear seat up and dealer mode the bike, the code should show up. this was how i remember it on TL bikes and think its still the same on SV's, on TLs you could just leave it in dealer mode while riding.

I think you can ride an SV in dealer mode too.
An interesting mod of baphs has a switch on the dealer mode wires so it can be accessed whenever.
