Default Rivetts in Receivership

Just popped down to the Northampton shop and they're closed. Small hand-printed sign in the window saying no more than "Rivetts of London is in Receivership". Website just says it's undergoing an update (shouldn't really take too long really to add "Out of Business" to it though).

Bit of a ******* too because I was there to return a tinted visor they sold me, but for the wrong model helmet. They were supposed to be ordering me a new one at which time I'd exchange (rather than make 2 trips in to Northampton). Several weeks have passed, so I rang last week and the guy tells me he's going to chase it down and get back to me (never did). Seems now they were likely only jerking me around and avoiding having to give a refund. Booo!

Anyone need a legal smoke tint visor for a Spec-1R?

Yeah a pretty sad state for sure.

I thought Girls Bike 2 had just moved? I took my wife there a while back so she could have a look at some gear while I went in to Rivetts - I thought she had said it had moved, but if they're closed entirely she'd probably just claim I have selective hearing...

I wonder if the presence of Hein Gericke is what's pushing the others out of business? International brand and with decent-ish parking, versus taking your life into your hands trying to manoeuvre on the Wellingborough Road!

I'd guess it is more the online/ebay sellling that is killing stores. Hands up all those who tried stuff on in a shop only to not buy it there and getting it cheaper online instead.

I feel strongly about this as this is the main consequence of people doing just that.

I just bought a truckload of gear at the BMF show for next to nothing (definitely far cheaper than any ebay deals). An event like that has got to be the nail in the coffin for a shop on th edge.

I do it all the time. Makes perfect sense to me. Why would I pay x amount more from the shop when I can get it online that much cheaper? Times are bad and we all need to look after our money. I will get it where ever it is cheapest.

But when said shop has closed down, then where do you go to try on your stuff?
