Well when it comes to bikes i dont know a thing i only just know how to put the petrol in.
My SV650 Naked K5 is in MINT condition with only 1240 miles on the clock. and i want it to stay in this contion. so what kind of jobs do i need to do inbetween services ? and can some one point me to links for these jobs . I had a look on the How to part of the site but couldnt see much that would help me . this bike will be used every day all year round for going to work and back on and weekends . so around around 200 miles a week. cheers |

As long as you can check oil levels and tyre pressures then the rest can be done at a garage if you have the cash, or learn and do yourself at home as and when jobs are needing doing.
Lots of advice on here when you need it. |

Clean if fairly often, not just because keeping it clean will help look after the finish but because the act of cleaning it tends to take you all over the bike and you will spot something going amiss before it becomes a problem. If you do ride it all year round invest in a small jet wash, and have it handy if possible. 30 seconds spent washing off the salt when you get home every day will save you hours of trying to clean up the corrosion that will appear if you don't. Keep an eye on the chain, lube it often (especially after a wet ride) or as has been said fit an oiler, go round the bike regular with a cloth and can of lubricant spray (WD40/GT75 or similar) on all the alloy bits, kick the tyres (or do it properly with a pressure gauge) once a week and whilst you are at it spin them round looking for nails etc that you might have picked up. The more familiar you are with how things should look the earlier you will spot a problem, hopefully before it stops you riding and becomes expensive.

If you're a bit unsure, drop me a PM and head over to Warrington. I do basically all my regular mainenance, it's only when there's something major that I drop it into the garage, and I can take you through the basics.

Invest in a can (or two) or ACF50 and cake any metal work in it (but not the brake discs!) after you clean the bike.
