Default sounded like a machine gun!

Ok on the way to work this morning. Twice i accelerated rapidly from a stand still. Up into 1st then 2nd then hard on the brakes while changing down. On both occasions it sounded like a machine gun coming from the gearbox/chain area. Could have been chain slap but in not too sure. It was a lot more violent than the usual chain slap. Any ideas what i could take a look at?

sounds like a chain slipping over sprockets to me - if rear one looks o.k have a look under the cover at the front one.

Check chain tension and condition. You could have also locked the rear without pulling the clutch in etc. Lots of things can make it do what you say

aye well i dont think it was the wheel as it sounded mechanical. chain tension is 28mm slack so thats ok.

See here: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ght=back+wheel

Sounds to me like the back wheel is driving the engine.

if this is your problem - have a look at the technique the mtogp riders use where the deliberatley don't let the clutch fully out - its basically a manual slipper clutch done by your hand.

It works well on all sequential gearboxes as you can down shift rapidly without locking a wheel, skipping or making big impacts on the engine.

You do not get the effects of engine braking doing this though so its more down to the brakes!

Front sprocket either worn out or coming off the shaft. You need to take off the cover(three bolts)and have a good hard look at it.
