Ive snapped my original gear peg off and fixed it by drilling and putting a bolt through, as a temporary solution. My question is, is it worth buying one of them folding jobs or staying oem.

I think the folding ones are a good idea, but never got round to it, I just kept on putting another bolt through.

If you continue to use a bolt, like i did for 2+ years, make sure you wrap it in plenty of duct tape and regularly inspect it for rust...and keep a spare bolt under your seat/in your toolkit.
Also if you can get hold of the little plastic "tube" inside a roll of PDQ machine paper then it helps to pad it out more than a skiny bolt feel. I wraped mine in tape until it was just fat enough to force the plastic tube over it and then a bit more tape to keep it in place and it looked just like a regular bit. King of over-elaborate bodges i am at times ![]()

1/4 bore fuel pipe works fine over an M8 bolt.

Yeh its not like i went out my way for that bit i suggested. I was at work, changed a roll of paper and thought...."oooh, i know here this would fit perfectly." And then stuck it on the bike instead
