Default Tyre decisions.

My used 650S has a front OE Dunlop on the front nearing the end of its life, but the bike has just been fitted (by its previous owner) a brand new OE Dunlop !!

Now I've read that the Dunlops are pants - but that you need to keep the front and rears compatible !!

I do about 200 miles a week boring commuting ..... so want the best combination of cheapish, safe, and preferably hard wearing tyres (if poss.)

So, without wasting the new rear - what to do ??

Another Dunlop ??
Mix until the rear wears out ?? .... and with what ??
Anyone tried/recommend the Avon VP2 Sports, Maxxis, or another relatively budget tyres I can wear out getting to work ...

TIA

I have heard a lot of people saying that the dunlop is pants and I thought the same when I had it fitted.
I never thought I had a lot of confidence in them but when It was time to replace it, the guy fitting the new one said that I hadnt wasted any of it.
I had worn them right to the edge and no chicken strip.
I guess its a better all round tyre than I had thought.
Lets face it, although suzuki isnt going to put the top of the range tyre on the sv, its not going to fit a load of rubbish to it either.

I had d208rrs too then avon storms - the storms were 10x better and seem to be wearing well.

+1 to the Avon storms, prior to selling the bike was on the second set. Got about 6.5k miles out of a rear and still had wear left. They are also brilliant in the wet, so if your commuting they are a must. It seems to be the tyre of choice for the SV at the moment.

Definately check those out then!!

Is it possible just to shove a front on til this new rear Dunlop wears out??

Anyone had any experience with the continentals? - they're cheap at the moment!

Its down to personal preference, but I wouldn't mix and match tyres. If it was me, I would take the wheels off the bike, take them to my local tyre fitter who can fit Avons to loose wheels for £160. He would then quite happily give me the nearly new one back.....then either sell or retain in case of an emergency.

Depends how long your rears got left if it's a few hundred boring/commuting miles then I'd be inclined to.

Some members rate the conti roadattacks.

Drew £160 for avons fitted? might be worth a trip down to the west midlands. Best I can get round here is £200 fitted or buying them off the net.
