Default Fork corrosion and seals.

ok the bike has come back from the mech's and he said i have some corrosion on the stanchion which may end up leaking fluid. is there anything i can do to fix the corrosion without having to buy a new stanchion or forks? my wallet is in tears right now. also if i had to get a new stanchion would it be more cost effective to buy some new forks instead? and if so which ones?

You might be able to wire wool it or something so it's not as abrasive, post some pics

Yeah, get yourself some of that green scouring pad from the kitchen. Very gently with some warm soapy water give it a scrub. Should remove most of the rust without damaging anything.

Afterwards give the stanchions a wipe with some WD40 or a lightly oiled rag.

i cant get a pic yet as my cam's got no battery but i'll do so tomorrow after i fit my new scorpion. i just want to go out on it as i havent had the bike for a good few months cos i had no cash to fix the problems it had. so after dinner a little cruise around south london should get me happy again just that corrosion thing will be in the back of my mind.

Fix the corrosion BEFORE going for that ride.
I know it's not such fun, but neither is forking ( sorry ) out for new seals.
It might just make the difference!
