Default Idling problems

im asking this on behaf of a friend, hes got a k3 sv650s, which most of the time idles perfectly fine at the usual 1300-1400rpm, but occasionally the idle randomly drops to about 1000rpm, sometimes stalling completely. it has stalled quite a few times just while he is riding about, but then he will stop and all will be well again, any ideas what might be up?

i know the idle on mine dropped significantly before the TPS messed up for the first time but his starts fine and works fine after he starts it again whereas mine didnt..... so im nt sure if its the same thing!

cheers

Good morning.

It would be worth giving the throttle bodies a clean. Use brake cleaner, or Meths, & a soft lint free rag.
Any residue around the butterflies can cause erratic idling on most fuel injection engines.
Also check for any loose vacuum connections, as an air leak can have the same effect.

Cheers.

When the engine is cold, starts and idles the way it should, no problems, but after a short journey even so the engines just a little above 50 degrees or so, when I come to junction and stop the idle drops to 1000revs or it just cuts out, most of the time, occassionallly it idles fine. Butterfly valves were clean, radiator hoses also seem to be fine

What model? Might be that you got crap in the petrol filter or in the carbs.

Balance can also cause issues.

Need more info before we can really help tbh

Its a K3. The spark plugs, oil and oil filter were just changed within the last 2 weeks, problem has appeared since then but with a gap. Its got a stubby and a K&N air filter if that makes any difference but those have been on a while. I've been using Tesco fuel, so crap in the fuel filter is definatly an option there. When riding, everything is normal, not noticed any differences with jerkiness at low speed or anything

Sounds like it's a bit lean, which would line up with the changes that have been made. I don't think the FI on teis is self-adjusting? Who you gonna call...?

YC of course, not that's he's got anything better to do...
